Tokenization is the process of turning a meaningful piece of data, such as
an account number, into a random string of characters called a token
that has no meaningful value if breached.

• Payment Scheme TSP
• Processor TSP (MDES)
• 3rd party TSP (MDES)
TSP solutions
• EMVCo released white paper technical specifications on token service provisioning, enabling
payment enablers to become TSP under common requirements and standards
• Payment Schemes have developed their own token services and offer them to issuers
• MasterCard has developed MDES, but allows usage of 3rd Party/Processor TSP
• Visa does not, mandates Token Vault within Visa Token Service (VTS)
