through your leadership and work at the
Boston Municipal Research Bureau.
Your leadership allowed the Boston Municipal Research Bureau to play a dominant
role in promoting responsible and efficient government for Boston and being a catalyst
for needed change. Your dogged advocacy helped shape city policies ranging from the
financial intricacies of its pensions to the composition of the School Committee. You
have been at the heart of creating a trust that has become the signature of excellence
for the Research Bureau for several decades. Your extraordinary leadership on many
issues changed Boston for the better, especially your devotion to the unsung heroes in
city government that make Boston the special city it is.
As a respected researcher who held strong working relationships with many public
officials, the business community, and the media, the Research Bureau’s much
deserved reputation for independent research, findings, insights, and recommendations is
due to your leadership. Your commitment to innovative research and as the Boston Globe
noted “never losing sight of the balance sheet, but also never forgetting that every city
is only as good as the moral compass that guides it” has made the Research Bureau a
widely respected organization throughout the country.
This award is presented to you for your unwavering commitment and outstanding
contributions to the field of governmental research and the GRA, inspiring and
elevating the work of your colleagues, and setting a standard that all in the profession
should aspire to achieve.
