2. How can dolphins sleep and
breathe at the same time?
Dolphins need to remember to come to the surface to breathe. Have you
ever wondered how they can do that AND sleep? Well, these amazing
creatures have an awesome adaptation! Only one half of their brain will
sleep at a time. Not only does this make breathing possible, it also lets
them keep an eye out (literally) for predators
3. Dolphin Reproduction Facts
Are you ready for more interesting facts about dolphins? They are the only
mammals that give birth tail first and head last. The babies drink their mother’s
milk for 1 – 1½ years. After that the male dolphins leave their mothers and make
or join a new pod, a group of dolphins.
4. Time to eat!
But, wait! There is even more to learn! A dolphin’s favorite thing to eat are fish, squid, and
crustaceans like shrimp. The pods work together to capture their food. Sometimes they
herd fish by swimming around them. Then they take turns swimming through the fish and
enjoying a meal of fish. Dolphins also corral their prey. The pods chase the fish to shallow
water. Once the fish are stuck, the dolphins take turns swimming through the fish for
another meal. Dolphins work together to keep their bellies full!
