Woodford Show Ball to mark 100 years
1. 100 YEARS: Woodford celebration
expected to be spectacular
Ball a quick
step away
THE 2011 Woodford Show Ball is shaping up to be
one of the most spectacular in Woodford’s history,
and not just because it will mark the show’s
centenary.
Six Queen (18 years and over) and 16 Princess
(13-17 years) nominees are vying to be crowned the
winners at the May 28 ball.
Ball committee member Michelle Hewitt said the
22 girls had started their journey to the big event
with deportment, etiquette, grooming and dance
classes on Monday and Tuesday nights.
Mrs Hewitt admitted some needed encouragement
to enter.
‘‘We went around and hassled a few of them,’’
she said.
But now they were ‘‘loving it’’.
‘‘They’re really excited about it. They’re all
walking out with something.’’
Show Queen entrant Bronwyn Cooper had not
thought of taking part in such a competition until
approached, but was now enthusiastic about the
competition.
‘‘I thought it’s the 100th ever show; it’s a
fantastic opportunity to take part in something like
this and support the show,’’ she said.
Not only has there been a lot of interest from
young women, organisers have been heartened by
the number of sponsors who have thrown their
weight behind the event.
The ball, at the Woodford Community Hall, will be
a licensed black-tie event with a three-course meal,
live entertainment, the crowning of the Woodford
Show Queen and Princess, plus Matron of the Ball.
Tickets, which are selling fast, are $55 each or
$50 each if a table of 10 or more is booked.
They are available from Leigh Amos on 5496 1680
(between 10am and 2pm and after 6pm weekdays)
and from Clew News.
