2. Race Relations Act 1976
The race relations was introduced by parliament in the united kingdom
in order to prevent discrimination on the topic of race. Topics that
where included in this act where race, colour, nationality ethnic and
national origin in the fields of employment, the provision of goods and
services, education and public functions.
There was also an act made before the 1976 act which was made in
1965 establishing the same topic about race. However the one in 1976
was updated and became more stricter due to the fact racism and
discriminations became more abusive and is still a problem today.
However the 1976 act was repealed by the equality act in 2010 which
supersedes and consolidates the previous law which was passed in the
UK.
3. Copyright and Intellectual Property
Law
Copyright is used a lot in media due to the fact
owners use it to protect their work from being
copied or stone by someone and them branding it
off as their own work. This is usually shown through
a signature or a legal document.
Intellectual property or in short IP refers to creative
property, treating them as a asset of a physical
property. There rights fall into four main groups
which are copyright, trademarks, design rights and
patents.
4. Broadcasting Act
The broadcasting act had a big impact in Britain,
and to a lot of people it is referred to as
Thatcherism. The main purpose of the
broadcasting act was to edit the entire structure
of the broadcasting system and effect some
channels more than others. One channel in
particular was ITV.
5. Privacy Law
The privacy law refers to laws which deal with the
regulation of personal information about certain
individuals such as celebrities, the queen and us as a
public. The government collects this information as well
as private organisations and is kept in storage. This has
become a big problem over the past few years where
people have been taking pictures of celebrities doing
their personal thing. An example of this is Kate Middleton
and when she got photographed sunbathing topless in
her own private villa. In the united Kingdom the privacy
laws establishes that you must have a right to right to
respect for privacy and family life
6. Human Rights Act 1998
The human rights act 1998 is an act made by
parliament which came into power on November
the 9th 1998. However the act didn’t really come
into power until 2nd October 2000. The act applies
to everybody in the united Kingdom and gives them
rights in situations. The act applies to every public
body in the united kingdom like such as courts,
police, local governments, hospitals, publicly
funded schools. This means if something goes
wrong in one of these public bodies then the
person can take this to court.
7. Licensing Act
This is an act brought into power by parliament of the
united kingdom, which establishes shops and other
properties to sell certain items such as alcohol, certain
age dvds and to sell certain food. If a shop does not have
a license in order to sell these products can be fined and
told to shut down due to the fact this is against the law.
Local authorities are now responsible for issuing licences
for premises, this is specifically in London due to the fact
this is the capital of the united kingdom. The licensing act
also gives people the right to drive a car after they’ve
pasted their test or take their pervisional when the turn

8. Libel Law
Libel law has many factors to it and the main
one being the act publishes the defamation of
character which is opposed to spoken
deformation of character which in known as
slander. Libel exposes a person to hatred,
shame, disgrace, contempt or ridicule. It also
injury's a persons occupation and also their
reputation.
9. Obscene Publications Act
This is also an act of parliament of the united
kingdom and it has significantly reformed the
law on publishing obscenity. The common law
was governed by the common law case. The act
has a new section which allows the justice of
peace to issue warrants allowing the police to
take certain materials from peoples homes if
they think it has something to do with a case
they are investigating in.
