I'm trained in piping design and familiar with ASME code (B31.3) for piping design specification. Adequate
knowledge on piping components/equipments, pipe routing design and pipe support. Attended intensive course on
piping design for more than 6 months and did project assignments that covers the full package of piping design
deliverables. Highly motivated in pursuing knowledge and career in piping design in the Oil and Gas industry.

PROCESS PIPING DESIGN
Piping Design Knowledge
a) Knowledge in piping design philosophy and piping design disciplines.
b) Understand the importance of piping design fundamental, piping deliverables (documents and
drawings) related to piping design.
c) Expose with various international codes and standards such as ASME B31.3, B31.4 and B31.8, client
technical specifications and best engineering practice in piping design engineering.
Schematic Flow Diagram
a) Knowledge in definitions, purpose and each type of piping flow diagrams, i.e. Process Flow Diagrams
(PFD), Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) and Utility Flow Diagram (UFD).
b) Understand the meaning of flow diagram’s abbreviations, symbols and legends.
c) Understand the basic process system and flow for crude oil production, gas production and water
production.
d) Able to read and interpret P&ID together with Process Line List.
Equipment and Safety Layout
a) Exposure in several types of offshore facilities such as fixed platform and floating platform.
b) Knowledge in Equipment Layout Design considering safety, operability, maintainability, future scope
and economic (cost), Human Factor Engineering (HFE), plant orientation based on environmental data,
area separation (hazardous, non-hazardous, process and utilities) as well as equipment separation.
c) Understand the type and basic function of mechanical equipments for both static and rotating such as
pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, launcher/receiver, pumps and compressors.
Piping Materials and Components
a) Knowledge in common pipe materials such as Carbon Steel (ASTM A106 Gr. B), LTCS (ASTM A333
Gr.6), Stainless Steel (ASTM A312 Gr.316), Duplex Stainless Steel (ASTM AXXX Gr. XXXX), Super
Duplex Stainless Steel (ASTM AXXX Gr.XXX).
b) Knowledge in pipe material selection based on Corrosion Design Basis Memorandum (CDBM),
corrosivity, design life and operating condition (temperature and pressure).
c) Knowledge in pipe material for both metal and non-metal material.
d) Knowledge in pipe pressure temperature rating (P-T Rating) in piping systems based on ASME B16.5.
e) Able to perform pipe wall thickness calculation based on ASME B31.3 – Process Piping.
f) Knowledge in piping components and its function– Pipes and Pipe Fittings (Elbow, Tees, Reducers,
Caps, O'lets, Flanges, Stud-Bolt and Nuts, Gaskets).
g) Knowledge in preparation of Material Take-Off (MTO) for piping bulk, manual valves and SP Items.
h) Knowledge in various types of manual valve and its function.
i) Knowledge in instrumentation valves such as Motor Operated Valves (MOV), Shut Down Valve (SDV),
Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) and Blow Down Valve (BDV).
j) Produce MTO Summary list documents.
Piping Layout, Piping G.A and Isometrics
a) Good understanding in fundamental of piping routing design (process and utility piping as well as
equipment piping) considering sufficient flexibility and rigidity, safe pipe support span and support
attachment point.
b) Good knowledge in equipment piping design (pump piping, shell and tube heat exchanger piping)
considering maintenance and operation accessibility.
c) Knowledge in preparation of Piping General Arrangement (G.A) and piping isometrics.
d) Able to perform quick check method based on para. 319.4.1 of ASME B31.3.
e) Basic knowledge in Pipe Stress Analysis Engineering.
f) Able to sketch piping isometric base on piping G.A
g) Able to read and produce piping G.A and isometrics using manual Autocad or Autoplant 3d.
Pipe Support Design
a) Able to design pipe support based on pipe support standard and pipe stress analysis output
considering various load cases such as sustained loads, occasional loads (wind, earthquake, slug etc.)
and thermal expansion loads as dictate in ASME B31.3.
b) Able to read stress isometric indicating node numbers, support type (support symbol) and restraint
summary report to identify loads imposed on each pipe support for correct selection of support beam
size.
c) Knowledge in various type of pipe support (rigid support) including spring support and dynamic
restraints.
d) Produce pipe support detail drawings and pipe support spool MTO summary documents.
