TechCarrot HUB Bot is a multifunctional Telegram chatbot that helps to manage communications between partner companies of TechCarrot HUB and simplifies the process of notifying partner companies about all active and relevant requests in the Hub, and of collecting offers (CVs of candidates) from the companies. TechCarrot HUB is one of the largest IT communities in Eastern Europe which unites more than 150 companies. One of the key functions of the Hub is the exchange of leads (projects) between partner companies. The idea of TechCarrot HUB Bot appeared when at one point the number of partner companies was growing rapidly, and it became clear that we needed a tool that would simplify and speed up the process of communication, lead exchange, and CVs collection.

This is a classic migration case study (the past, current and the future) at scale from a world-wide company transitioning from Confluent Platform and Confluent Cloud to self-managed Apache Kafka on Kubernetes using Strimzi. At Maersk, we have been architecting, designing and implementing our 3rd generation Event Streaming Platform. This platform is based on Kubernetes in Azure and using Strimzi to operate Apache Kafka at large scale, highly reliable, segregating data based on isolated use cases. Our 2nd generation was based on OnPrem Confluent Platform and Confluent Cloud and this presentation is the story of this migration and reasoning behind it. Furthermore, we would get into details on how we monitor (Grafana, Prometheus), alert (GoAlert and alert as code), operate and provide self-service solutions on top of Strimzi to enable business critical application in Maersk, implemented in GoLang using the GitOps deployment model with Flux and Kustomization among others. Finally, if time allows we will end with a demo of an open-source self service tool to monitor and explore the cluster with most wanted features such as topic message browsing and configuring and restarting connectors.

With each advancement in the manufacturing process, a decreasing percentage of the CPU can operate at full capacity, leading to the emergence of the term 'dark silicon'. This trend necessitates techniques that utilize chip area to optimize power efficiency through specialized accelerators. The presentation will outline key concepts that led to the dark silicon such as Moore’s law and breakdown of Dennard scaling, followed by an overview of current and upcoming CPU accelerators. The focus will then shift to vector units and the specifics of vector programming. Attendees will be introduced to registers, a range of vector operations, and methods to develop branchless algorithms such as sorting networks. The session will conclude with an overview of the new Java Vector API and how it was already picked up by projects to do AI inference (Llama 2) and vector search (AstraDB and Cassandra).
