2. The Bible uses three terms from Barabbas’ crimes
∗Insurrection – mutiny
∗Sedition - treason
∗Murder
I. HE WAS GUILTY

3. I have never met anyone
who did not admit they were sinners.
I. HE WAS GUILTY

4. Barabbas was a bad man, who had been caught and
convicted.
Everyone agrees that “All have sinned and come short of
the glory of God” but the Bible takes us a step further
and declares, “For the wages of sin is death…”
II. HE WAS CONDEMNED

5. ∗ He had no hope
∗ He had no chance of escaping
∗ He was as good as a dead man
III. HE WAS REPLACED

6. ∗ There was no reason that God would forgive us
∗ There was no goodness in us that we deserved to be
saved
∗ We had no argument in our defense
∗ We had nothing with which to bargain for our
release
Our salvation is purely a miracle.
III. HE WAS REPLACED

7. 1. There is the person who escapes the cross – ignores
it – and never gets saved.
2. There is the Christian who, having escaped
condemnation, walks away from the cross to live for
himself.
