Which brings us to what Covalent is and why we’re here
Covalent is a one-stop shop to access all your on-chain data. This means:
[Bullet 1 fade in on click]
A data layer as a single Unified API with consistent request/response formats and support for all blockchains
[Bullet 2 fade in on click]
Data can be queryable without having to host a node or infrastructure just like with your favourite Web2 API integrations with Stripe or Twilio
[Bullet 3 fade in on click]
Data can be accessed and used by developers and analysts alike with essentially no custom query code
[Bullet 4 fade in on click]
Multi chain is available natively
So what can you do with on-chain data?
With this data, you can unlock and power a whole host of use cases. Here’s just a quick snapshot.
We’re excited to have had the opportunity to engage over 30K developers and power over 3000 projects, ranging from large enterprises to small startups, with our API , and we hope to inspire you all to try using us in your hackathon projects.
This is still a very very small segment of developers. Take some quick numbers - 30 million devs worldwide, 300K in web3 which is 1%, 30K using our API which is 0.1% of all devs so it still very early and a great time to get involved in web3!
This means that with just a single API, you can fetch granular and historical blockchain data across multiple networks with no code or delays. At Covalent, under the hood, we index entire blockchains so that you have the full historical dataset including archived state which is immediately available to consume.
Key points:
Provide consistent data formats across 40 supported blockchains including many testnets
Class A universal - work the same across all supported blockchains
Class B protocol specific - Current support for Uniswap-clone DEX data with a handful of endpoints
Class C endpoints are where we see a lot of growth with community built and managed endpoints
We like to classify our users into 2 types: Analysts and Developers
Using ‘Analyst mode’ from the API reference allow users to get data in CSV/tabular format
Also have a dashboarding product, Increment, for Analysts to do deep dives
Now let’s have a look at the API
