sunrises and sunsets.
3. The first step to taking great sunrise and
sunset photographs is planning ahead.
While some shots occur spontaneously,
spending a couple of days looking for an
interesting place to photograph a sunrise or
sunset and arriving early on the day of the
shoot helps ensure quality photographs are
taken time after time. Finding a location with
silhouettes and objects in the foreground
helps create a special picture.
4. When deciding on composition, shoot at several
focal lengths and consider using silhouettes as
focal points. Although making the sun the feature
of the picture is an option, silhouettes provide a
great point of interest that draw the eye, adding
mood to the photo. Using the rule of thirds
ensures objects and the horizon are placed off-
center, making for a more artistic shot. In
general, if the sunset or sunrise is pretty, place
the horizon in the bottom third. If the scene is
more lackluster, place the horizon in the top
third.
