An orangery is a structure in the premises of your house which can also be said to resemble a
green house or a conservatory. The orangeries should never be exactly compared to the
conservatories. The setting up of an orangery at home can be a very wise decision. The history
of setting up an orangery comes from olden times. In 20 th century people used to create such
exotic set ups at their places. But now, the urban trends too have followed the old practice of
creating glasshouses in their homes.
An orangery is a building or a buildup which is made up of highly glazed and glassy material.
There are certain points which should be kept in mind while thinking of setting up one, they
are:
The material for the buildup should be glazed or of glass. This helps in maintaining the
greenhouse effect in the orangery and the cultivation is not hampered.
The walls should be very high. The walls of these glasshouses should always be made
very high so that there is ample circulation of air inside the setup.
The ceiling should be adjustable. The ceiling should be such in an orangery that it can
allow proper sunlight to enter into the exotica galleria.
The temperature must be regulated. There should always be a cold compressor in the
buildup to reduce the excessive heating up, so that the individuals can easily sit back
and relax in the orangery.
