DESIGN AND BUILD
CenturyLink has consistently built our datacenters to adhere to the Uptime
Institute Tier III standard for design and build. As of 2014, we have committed
to obtain the Tier III Design and Constructed Facilities certifications for all new
builds and have already achieved 6 Tier III Facility certifications.
All of our data centers are built to withstand extreme environmental
conditions such as hurricanes, earthquake and tornados. Our facilities,
where it is required due to the local environmental threats, are
hardened to withstand winds (including uplift) of up to 150 mph (the
equivalent of a Level 4 Hurricane or an EF3 Tornado). In all data centers,
the equipment racks are anchored to the a concrete stab below the
raised floor. In seismically-active regions, additional layers of protection
including bracing or isolation equipment are deployed to minimize
movement and potential tremors from earthquake or other seismic
events. CenturyLink takes great care to meet or exceed stringent local
building code requirements.

Uptime developed the MO program based on 20 years of historical
data compiled from data center outages. By understanding what causes
outages, Uptime has developed a standard that provides proactive
operational processes to avoid them. CenturyLink’s commitment to
MO reinforces its long standing practice of hiring exceptional staff
committed to continuous improvement, providing consistent and well
documented processes. The MO Stamp provides third-party validation
of CenturyLink’s Operational Excellence.
EFFICIENCY AND SUSTAINABILITY

innovative and proactive measures to improve hot air containment, data

implementing alternative energy options, providing higher density Colocation
