Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being and affects how we think, feel, and act. It helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Maintaining good mental health involves being comfortable with yourself, having positive relationships, and being able to meet life's demands. Stress can negatively impact mental health by weakening the immune system and increasing risks of psychosomatic illnesses, but moderate stress can also help people meet challenges. Prolonged or severe stress can lead to exhaustion.

6. STRESS AND MENTAL DISORDER
Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical
tension. It can come from any event or
thought that makes you feel frustrated ,
angry , or nervous .
Stress is your body’s reaction to a challenge
or demand .In short burst , Stress can be
positive , such as when it helps you avoid
danger or meet a deadline.
7. STRESS AND MENTAL DISORDER
STRESS is defined as the individual’s
reaction to stressors or the body’s
internal response to a stressful
situation.
STRESSOR – refers to the situation of
things that cause stress.
8. STRESS MECHANISM
The body is activated when the brain
perceives a stressors . Found in the brain in
is an organ called HYPOTHALAMUS.
The HYPOTHALAMUS is a control center,
activating two systems when the stressor is
present . These two systems are the
AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM AND
ENDOCRINE SYSTEM.
9. HOW THESE SYSTEMS OPERATE
The Autonomic Nervous System releases adrenaline
into the blood- stream. The Endocrine System
releases hormones that travel through the blood-
stream to the adrenal , thyroid , and other glands
of the body. The heart rate increases and blood
pressure rises when these two systems are
activated. The blood leaves the stomach and goes to
the arms, legs, and brain. Scientists term this action
as arousal of the body , or the FIGHT OR FLIGHT
RESPONSE OF THE BODY . This initial response to
stress is called the ALARM STAGE,
10. The second stage is called the
RESISTANCE STAGE , where the body
tries to resist the stressor . The length
of time spent in this stage depends on
the nature of the stressor and its
intensity and on the body’s ability to
adopt to it. Once people get used to a
stressor they do not experience as much
emotional stress.
11. The third stage of stress mechanism may
occur if a severe stressor continues too
long. This is called the EXHAUSTION
STAGE , where the ability to resist is
used up. In extreme cases , the person
who reaches this stage of stress may die.
12. NEGATIVE EFFECT OF STRESS
1. Feels bad
2. Headaches
3. Upset stomach
POSITIVE EFFECT OF STRESS
1. Helps people to meet the challenge
2. Getting up the nerve to talk to
someone you have been wanting to
meet for over a month
13. 3. Gets to do things which have been left undone
