I am excited to share a personal experience that has been both fulfilling and transformative. At the end of 2022, my husband and I decided to embark on a familial and professional project in the vibrant city of London.
This journey has taught us the immense value of embracing change and stepping out of our comfort zones. While it has not been without its challenges, we can confidently say that every moment has been absolutely worth it. Relocating to a new country has enriched our lives in ways we could have never anticipated.
Recognizing the importance of practical information during such a transition, I created this presentation to gather all the essential details that proved useful and insights into aspects I wish I had known before embarking on this journey.
I hope it can be a valuable contribution to all planning their move to London.
And my greatest advice: it is in your hands to make this experience memorable. Embrace every opportunity, seize the moments, and relish this city's history, culture, diversity and richness.
I encourage you to share it with anyone who may find it beneficial. Let's come together as a supportive community!
Wishing you all the best in your upcoming London adventure!

2. • At the end of 2022, my husband and I decided to start a family project in London.
• In January 2023, we settled in this incredible city and had little time to achieve it.
• Getting practical information was vital, and a network of Chileans in the UK was of great
help. There I decided at some point to gather the information that had been useful for
me, in addition to those things that I would have liked to know before, and help others
who were going through the same process.
• I have had a lot of fun collecting all this data and I decided to expand it to things that
catch my attention daily.
• I hope it will be a real contribution and my greatest advice: it is in your hands to make
this experience memorable.

6. 6. COUNCIL TAX
• Property tax charged by local authorities to help fund local
services, such as waste collection, roads and street lighting,
libraries, parks, and leisure facilities.
• The amount to pay depends on the value of the property and
its council tax band (Typically A to H)., and the area where you
live, as each local authority sets its council tax rates.
• Full-time students are generally exempt from paying this tax,
but if you live with non-student housemates you will still be
required to pay. You can apply for discounts. In that case:
• Find your council here: https://www.gov.uk/pay-council-tax
• Gather the documents needed and send them to your council,

IT DEPENDS:
• On your lifestyle, preferences, and
budget.
• I recommend living near your work or
university or being well connected to
transport related to those places.
• Get familiarized with London Map
and its postcodes!
• London Market is very fast. What is available today, may not be available tomorrow!
• Normally, private accommodation is advertised only one or two months before availability.
• Therefore, do not expect to rent with much time in advance. Instead, get to know the market.
• Renting a temporary place to search while in London could be a great option.
Have you considered
living south of the river?
It tends to be cheaper
and well-connected.
9. RENTING
BASIC INFORMATION
1. Get familiarized with London Map and decide in which part of
the city you would like to live, maybe choose 2/3 places.
2. Download the official guide on How to rent and read it:
3. Start searching with patience, and stay calm. Making contacts
will help you gain experience and improve your
understanding of the market.
4. If you need a temporary place to arrive, this could help:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-rent
HOW TO GET STARTED?
1. To secure a property to rent, normally, you will have to pay a
holding deposit until the signing of the contract. It cannot be more
than a week's rent. If you retract, you usually lose it. READ THE
CONTRACT CAREFULLY.
2. Typically, you will need references and a guarantor in the UK to
rent. If not, be prepared to pay more or less 6 months in advance.
3. Security deposit: secures the landlord against damages or unpaid
rent. The maximum you can be charged is 5 weeks’ rent. Landlord
or agent has 30 days to provide details on how it is protected.
4. Right to rent: you will be asked to provide a code for checking your
immigration status as a tenant.

MY TIPS:
• If you are not a heavy user, a £10 plan
should be enough.
• Be careful with the top-up. I used it
with Vodafone, and the rate was so
high that £10 lasted me less than an
afternoon.
• I switched to a plan from Lebara, which
has worked very well for me, even in
the EU (check that if you plan to travel
there).

40. • Trip or Baggage Delay
The airline must compensate you if it exceeds a certain number of hours (usually +3).
Most of the flights you pay with a Credit Card have:
• Baggage Delay Insurance
Covers the cost of items you must buy if your bag is delayed for a certain time or replacement
costs if lost.
Limitations and maximum coverage per person and item may vary by card.
• Trip Delay Reimbursement
If your scheduled trip is delayed by a certain amount of time., it covers expenses that could
include: meals, toiletries, medication, lodging and other personal items. However, there may
be a per-trip or per-ticket coverage maximum.
