5. A. THE CREATION IN 6 DAYS (+ A DAY OF REST)
FIRST DAY
God created the heavens
and the earth. Then God
said, “Let there be light.”
God separated light from
darkness and called the
light “day and the darkness
“night.”
6. SECOND DAY
Then God said, “Let
be an expanse in the
midst of the waters, and
let the waters be
separated from one
another.”
God called the expanse
“sky.”
7. THIRD DAY
Then God said, “Let the waters
the sky be gathered in a single
and the dry ground appeared.”
God called the dry ground “land” and
the waters he called “sea.”
Then God said, “Let the land sprout
grass; vegetation to produce seed;
fruit-trees to produce fruits of every
kind which will reproduce in the
8. FOURTH DAY
Then God said, “Let there be
luminaries above the expanse
separate day from night. Let
them become the sign for the
length of time: for the days
for the years.”
God made two luminaries: the
greater one to rule the day, and
the lesser one to rule the night
with the stars.
9. FIFTH DAY
Then God said, “Let the
waters be filled with
swarming living
creatures, and flying
creatures fly above the
land and upon the face
of the skies.
10. SIXTH DAY
Then God said, “Let the land bring
forth all kinds of living creatures:
the beasts and creeping
Then God said, “Let us make man
in our image, after our likeness.
them have domination.”
God created man in his image; in
God’s image he created male and
female.
11. SEVENTH DAY
Since God finished the work
he made, he ceased to work
on the seventh day. So God
blessed the seventh day and
made it holy.
13. 2. The creation “ex nihilo,” “out of nothing”
God created everything without anything.
Out of nothing, God created everything. This destroys the
principle “Ex nihilo, nihil fit.” (Out of nothing, nothing can be
made)
Only God can create things “out of nothing”.
Powerful
He does not use magic.
“If we would only trust God, He can do many good things if we ask Him
of it.”
14. 3. The sense of responsibility toward the created
world, “stewardship”
To have dominion is not equivalent to abuse. To be given the
power of dominion is tantamount to “entrusting” and therefore
“not owning.”
Everything is entrusted to man as a “steward” of all creation.
Stewardship is the act of entrusting to someone something
which is important.
We are all stewards. We are tasked to take care of our very own
lives (body and soul), parents, siblings, children, friends, and even
our enemies.
15. 4. The dignity of human beings
“Man is the highest among creations of God.”
To trample down the rights of anyone all because of his/her
peculiarities/characteristics means that we cannot see the
image and likeness of God in him/her.
“Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least
brothers of mine, you also did to me” (Mt 25:40).
We are to love, respect, and accept each one no matter what
and who the other is.
16. 5. The seventh day
God created in six days. As God rested on the seventh day, so too man
should stop working on the seventh day.
God commands to honor of the seventh day and keep it holy.
To keep it holy is to go to church and to participate in worshipping of
God.
It is our responsibility to honor, praise, worship and thank God for all
the gifts we receive from Him. It is a way of expressing to Him our
utang na loob.
Since we love Him, we are obliged to be with Him, no matter how
17. THINK OF ME!
1. How do you show your gratitude to God for the gift of love, life, and
family?
2. Is going to mass during Sundays and holy days of obligations
important to you? How so?
3. How do you respect, preserve, and maintain the dignity of your life
and of others?
4. How can you best describe yourself as God’s steward?
5. Do you believe in the power of God’s word and Spirit, the giver of life
and order to everything? Explain.
