Team 3 Spelling Inquiry
The Model for this Report
Background
- Schnonell results at start of year showed 53% Year 8 students were below in spelling.
§ 17.6% Year 7 were below
§ 36.4% Year 6 were below
- BOT has requested some action to address these figures.
- As part of yearly appraisal review process, staff have been asked to complete two inquiries in 2016. Team 3 has focussed on the following:
· ALIM TERM 2-
· LITERACY INQUIRY- Spelling-TERM 3
- Deputy Principal presented information at a team meeting and is following up with assurance quality checks.
o Concerns have been expressed about the inconsistency of delivery.
o Lack of evidence of planning
o List words home to families
- Concerns have been expressed from staff about the validity of the school wide spelling programme for the Senior School.
o Does CCC deliver what is required at Y5-8?
o Have the teachers been given enough Professional Development to deliver the programme?
Is the Schnonel test the best test to assess our spelling programmes? Would have Star been a better test to analyse?
What funding and support is to be given to lift spelling in the Senior school?
What are parents actually expecting to see in the Senior School for Spelling?
Parent /Student Survey
PARENT/STUDENT SURVEY SUMMARY
Parent Data Summary
We had 38 Responses to our TEAM 3 Parent survey with a good cross section across our team.
The results affirm the good work teachers are doing in Team 3. Most parents agree that teachers’ value and care
for their students. There seems to be a general consensus that staff are approachable and keep parents well
informed about their students learning. Parents feel staff on the most part stimulate and engage their students with
learning.
Student Data Summary
This data closely replicas our Parent Survey in that it affirms the great work our teachers are doing.
There were 26 respondents most mainly from one class.
Most students felt engaged and stimulated in their learning. They mostly agreed that the Special Character of our
school was important to them.
The students view their teachers positively and believe teachers set high expectations and treat them fairly. Most
importantly they feel respected and cared for by their teachers.
Students feel teachers know what they are teaching and give good feedback on how they can improve their learning.
Transition into Secondary School
This is a summary from our Catholic Secondary Schools of how well our
Year 8 students from 2015 have transitioned into Secondary School.
Sacred Heart Girls College
In 2016 12 Year 9 students entered Sacred Heart:
-Describe as being polite and respectful
- Show good self sufficient and independence skills.
-Show good reasoning skills which is tested in the entrance test.
-Only one student initially struggled but settled later into routine.
Literacy
Our students show strengths in Literacy.
Mathematics
-St Patrick’s students are currently on the whole performing well in numeracy.
St Johns College
Our boys perform better in numeracy and reading with greater proportion of students achieving at or above
the standard.
Our results show many of our boys are achieving at or above the expected standard. The students who are
achieving below the standard are boys who we identified below the standard in Year 8.

Team Goal for 2016
In Term One our team conducted a Field Analysis exercise in what we thought an
effective team looked like.
The one key aspect we identified as a team we needed to work on was working
colliegially and collaboratively together.
The ALiM2 Project in Term 2 was built around building teaching capacity within a
colliegal and collaborative model. Whilst there was some disruptiveness with the
implementation of the model it proved very successful.
Team members have supported each other across a whole range of activities e.g.
Paula was particularly well supported by Patsy with School Production, team members
have supported their Team leader with the various responsibilities he holds, and Cross
Grouping between teachers at different levels.
The professionalism amongst Team 3 members this year to support and collaborate as
a team has been instrumental in building a more cohesive team environment.
In Summary
I believe this report highlights the great
accomplishments of teachers and students
have achieved in 2016. The successes
presented need to be celebrated and
promoted. The evidence shown I believe is
irrefutable and says a lot about the quality of
teaching and learning in Team 3, 2016.

  • 15. Team Goal for 2016 In Term One our team conducted a Field Analysis exercise in what we thought an effective team looked like. The one key aspect we identified as a team we needed to work on was working colliegially and collaboratively together. The ALiM2 Project in Term 2 was built around building teaching capacity within a colliegal and collaborative model. Whilst there was some disruptiveness with the implementation of the model it proved very successful. Team members have supported each other across a whole range of activities e.g. Paula was particularly well supported by Patsy with School Production, team members have supported their Team leader with the various responsibilities he holds, and Cross Grouping between teachers at different levels. The professionalism amongst Team 3 members this year to support and collaborate as a team has been instrumental in building a more cohesive team environment.
  • 16. In Summary I believe this report highlights the great accomplishments of teachers and students have achieved in 2016. The successes presented need to be celebrated and promoted. The evidence shown I believe is irrefutable and says a lot about the quality of teaching and learning in Team 3, 2016.
