Taking underwater photos that capture sunbursts from above requires skill and knowledge of using specific camera settings to block out excessive sunlight. Consider the following helpful tips for capturing quality photos of sunbursts from below the water’s surface: 1. Use a low ISO setting Keep your camera’s ISO setting as low as possible to reduce the sensitivity of the camera to light which allows it to produce images in bright environments. 2. Use a fast shutter speed Using a fast shutter speed reduces the time the shutter is open to lower the amount ambient light infiltrating the camera lens. It also freezes the movement of the water in photos that are taken which results in a better image of the shafts of sun rays in the water. 3. Reduce aperture size Use a small aperture, the opening of the lens, which allows light to pass in, to prevent overexposure of your photo and increase the depth of field of the shot to keep the photo in focus.
