Education in Pakistan is compulsory up to age 16 according to the constitution. It involves both formal instruction in schools as well as informal learning, with the goal of facilitating the acquisition of knowledge, skills, beliefs and habits. Education is commonly divided into stages like preschool, primary school, secondary school, and university. Empowering women and girls through education is particularly important, as female literacy and education leads to benefits like higher earnings, lower child mortality rates, and increased likelihood that children will attend school themselves.

of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Educational methods
include storytelling, discussion, teaching, training, and directed research. Education

themselves.[1] Education can take place in formal or informal settings and
any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts may be
considered educational. The methodology of teaching is called pedagogy.

A right to education has been recognized by some governments and the United
Nations.[2] In most regions, education is compulsory up to a certain age.

4.  Empowering women and girls through
education
 We know that until children, especially
girls, are educated, societies won’t
change. Education is the antidote for
ignorance, poverty, and war. Empowering
women is extremely important in this plan.
 More than 573 million women and girls
worldwide are illiterate.
 A woman’s earnings will be 10-20% higher
for every year of school she completes.
 The child of a literate mother has
a 50% greater chance of surviving past
age 5.
 Children with educated mothers
are 50% more likely to go to school.
 Of 57 million children who aren’t in
school 31 million of them are GIRLS.

5.  THE STATE SHALL PROVIDE FREE AND
COMPULSORY EDUCATION TO ALL CHILDREN
OF THE AGE OF FIVE TO SIXTEEN YEARS IN
SUCH A MANNER AS MAY BE DETERMINED BY
LAW.

7. SUGGESTIONS:
 Identify why children are not in school
 Set universal minimum standards for schools
 Provide transport for children and teachers
 Mobilise parents:
 Get the private sector to offer more scholarships
 Scrap teaching in English
 Listen to teachers
 Offer stipends to girls
 Make provisions for children with special needs
 Incentivise teachers to learn as they earn
 Take sanitation seriously
 Adapt teaching techniques for volatile situations
