Shah Jahan was the Mughal emperor of India from 1628 to 1658 during the Golden Age of the Mughal Empire. He was the fifth Mughal emperor after his great-grandfather Babur, grandfather Humayun, father Jahangir, and uncle Akbar. During his reign, he oversaw the construction of famous architectural monuments like the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, and Lahore Fort. He fell ill in 1658 and was confined by his son Aurangzeb until his death in 1666.
