2. • Military personnel suffer heat, cardiac and
respiratory illness and even death during training
and on the battlefield as a result of exertion in
hostile environments
• There are no methods available today which
accurately monitor core body temperature or the
suite of vital signs non-invasively and continuously
The Problem
3. 1. Non-invasive Continuous Core Temperature Monitor
• Completed April 2014
2. Non-invasive Continuous Physiology Monitor
• Completion due May 2015
• Building on the core temperature monitor to
measure the suite of vital signs
CDE Contracts: Proof of Concept
5. Measuring vital signs during training and on the
battlefield to:
• Enable intervention to prevent heat, cardiac and
respiratory illness, and improve survival rate
• Improve triage on the battlefield and diagnosis of
non-battle injury/illness/disease to expedite care
• Ensure military personnel are fit for duty to operate
in harsh environments
• Enhance training through performance analysis
Additional benefits with applications in first response,
sport and healthcare.
