2. INTRODUCTION
Due to fast pace in which different things are being created in the world today’
some common examples of fast moving items are electric vehicles and
aeroplanes that make life so simple. In this century automation is widely defined
as replacement of manual effort by mechanical power in all degrees of
automation. The operation remains an essential part of system although the
changing demands on physical inputs as the degree of mechanization is increased
3. PROBLEM STATEMENT
Machines are precise that they can cut metal bar, plastic pipes and wood pieces
with minimum time made up of different materials but they have one major
disadvantage that those are capable of cutting one piece at a time. For
companies and industries to achieve mass production of items, it is necessary to
cut materials at a high speed simultaneously
4. OBJECTIVES
MAIN OBJECTIVES
To design a machine that can cut
material components at high speed
and in large quantities. Material
components may include metal
bars, plastic pipes and pieces of
timber
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE
To develop a high speed cutting
machine.
To design a multi cutting hack saw
machine.
To produce large quantities of
materials within limited period of
time
5. LITERATURE REVIEW
Introduction
This section presents background information on motorized hack saw machines as
well as their history. This section serves as the basis of research and provides
criteria to evaluate the studied cases in the later stages. The aim of this work is
to develop a hack saw machine that will use less man power effort to produce
uniform cutting of PVC pipes, metals and wood. It is also done to show the
performance difference between hand driven, pedal driven and a multi four way
hack saw machine

Concepts
This proposal presents the design and
concepts of a multi four way hack saw
blade machine mainly carried out for
mass production of industrial based
items. Industries are basically meant
for production of useful goods and
services at low production cost,
machinery cost and low inventory
cost. This project consists of a crank
and slider mechanism, linear bushing
for proper operations
Reverse of related works
They are many industrial applications
where round or square bars are required
to be operated on different machines to
make machine components such as
shafts, bolts, screws, this needs more
and ore number of pieces to be cut for
mass production of those components.
To achieve this goal the multi-way hack
saw machine which is able to cut four
ices simultaneously without any jerk and
vibration. This machine device also
ensure that the piece of metal, plastic
or wood is being cut to the required
angle.
7. METHODOLOGY
Introduction
The purpose of this project is to develop
an integrated and autonomous multi-way
hack saw machine that will enable both
large companies and small workshop to
produce large quantity of pieces(metals,
plastics and wood) at a very high speed
within a limited period of time. This will
help them in the assembling of different
items like windows, doors and other
structures hence attaining more profits.
In order to accomplish this task we
needed to gather a few resources
Data collecting and
gathering
In order to acquire some of the
information, we used qualitative
research. Qualitative research is the
method of inquiry employed in many
different academic disciplines,
including in the social sciences and
natural sciences, but also in non-
academic context including market
research, business and service
demonstrations by non-profits
organizations.

Materials
Metal frame; This is metal designed from mild steel and is welded
finely to form a square so that each hacksaw is mounted on a
different side of the frame.
A.C. Motor; This a electric motor driven by an alternating current.
The main purpose of A.C motor is to produce a rotary motion of the
circular disc.
Circular Disc; This circular disc is fixed to a rotating axle of the A.C
motor with its center offset from that of the axle. It is used to
convert rotary motion into reciprocating motion of the hacksaw
blades.
Vice; This is a mechanical device used for holding the work piece
(metal, wood and plastic) firmly so that when the machine starts
operating, it cuts the pieces easily
Connecting rods; These are metal pieces that connect the circular
plate to the hacksaw blades. When the circular plate is rotating, the
connecting rods reciprocate.
Hacksaw blades; After the work pieces have been mounted on the
vice and the machine is operating, the hacksaw blades cut the work
pieces in required dimensions.
Equipment used
Welding machine
Goggles
Hand gloves
Model design
The design set up of the multi-way hacksaw
machine project consists of a frame on which
the hacksaw blades are mounted. The hacksaw
blades are mounted on four sides of the frame.
The circular cam plate is mounted in the
Centre of the frame which is operated by a
motor. The power to the motor is given with
help of AC supply. Connecting rods are used to
connect the cam wheel and the hacksaw
blades. The cam mechanism is used to convert
rotary motion to reciprocating motion of the
hacksaw blades.
By switching on the motor, power is delivered
from the motor to the cam wheel. The cam
wheel rotates so that hacksaw blades
reciprocate. The work pieces are mounted and
held firmly on the machine vices and the entire
system is switched on. Thus the four work
pieces are cut simultaneously using a motor
and the cam mechanism
