Usman Intitute of Tecnology (UIT) arranged an Industrial Tour for the students of
Electrical Engineering 3rd semester to PSO Lubricant Manufacturing Terminal (LMT)
on February 13, 2014 .The trip provided students practical knowledge and experience.
Engr.Irfan Sheikh (Director Liaison and Placement Bureau) headed the group of 5 students.

Engineers of PSO LMT showed and guided the students about different Machines and
Software being used there. The students visited different parts of the Terminal which
includes Lubricants Blending Section, Can Manufacturing Unit (CMU), Can Filling Unit
(CFU), Quality Control Laboratory, Warehouse and Distribution (WH&D) and Utility /
Power House.
The students also get familiarized with the material used in Lubricant manufacturing and
Can manufacturing.
PSO LMT has 16 tanks of different sizes to store Base Oil and Additives (Main materials used in
Lubricant Manufacturing). Each tank is controlled by Numatic valve which are operated at the
pressure of 6 bars therefore they have a compressor which provide maximum pressure of 10
bars.
In blending section there are two automatic blending
systems.
(i) Automatic Batch Blender (ABB)
(ii) Simultaneous Metering Blender (SMB)
Which are controlled by Lupe Cell Software based on
SCADA. It controls the tanks as well as blending machine.

In quality Control Laboratory the different parameters of Lubricant are checked which includes
Viscosity, Viscosity Index, Density, Flash Point and its Color.
PSO LMT has two Automatic Can Filling Systems. Each fills
10 cans at a time. It was imported from COMACO Italy. The
Sealing machine had a sensor which detects the unsealed
or improper sealed can and separate it. A Laser printing
technique is used print a specific number on can which
can be used by customer to verify that the product is
genuine or not.
PSO LMT has in-house can manufacturing system. It has 3 Blow MoldingMachines importedfrom
TECHNE, Italyusedforcan manufacturingand2 Injection Molding Machines imported BATTENFIELD
,Austria used for can’s cap manufacturing.
PSO LMT has warehouse with Storage Capacity of 250,000
Filled Cans and 3,000 - 3,500 Filled Drums. The warehouse
is Equipped with Drive-in and drive-through pallets racking
system and Fork-lifts and High reach trucks.
To provide electricity to all machines, PSO LMT has its own generation plant which has 3
Generators in which 2 are Gas generators with the capacity of around 1MW and 836KW and 1 is
Diesel with the capacity of 1MW. PSO LMT has requirement of 850KW during day hours and
around 750KW for night shift, therefore a single Generator is enough to supply the power to
whole terminal and other 2 are in standby mode. PSO LMT also has backup from Anoud power-
plant.
The visit ends with the productive and Cognizant question & answer session.
