Impact on farmers and various industry’s
4. The All India Meat and Livestock Exporters Association
(AIMLEA) claimed the government's decision will
eventually hit the farmers. In such a scenario, banning

govt
Panic prevails in the Rs 50,000 crore meat
industry of Uttar Pradesh after a statewide
crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses and
mechanised abattoirs initiated by chief minister
Adityanath Yogi. India is one of the largest meat
producers with UP accounting for 60% of the
trade, but the state’s production has gone down
by an estimated 30-40% and exports are likely
to be badly hit.
7. Official data shows that while 1,37,687 tonnes of beef
was exported in March 2017, the figure came down to
86,119 tonnes in April 2017 -- a drop of 51,568 tonnes in
just a month.
The data put out by the Union ministry of Commerce and
Industry also suggests that the April export this year is
nearly 11,000 tonnes less than the corresponding period
last fiscal.
