2. The game of basketball is created in 1891 by Dr.
James Naismith, in Springfield, Massachusetts. To
create the game he use a half-bushel peach basket
and a soccer ball. The first-ever game was played
by Naismith students, which was scored (1-0).
3. Word of the new game spread like wildfire. It was an instant
success. A few weeks after the game was invented,
students introduced the game at their own YMCAs. The
game of basketball was introduced to many foreign nations
in a relatively short period of time. High schools and
colleges began to introduce the new game, and by 1905,
basketball was officially recognized as a permanent winter
sport.

4. Basketball was invented as a new recreational activity that will provide an
avenue for the students to participate in an indoor activity after the football
season ends. This game involves running, dribbling, and shooting which will
burn off the energy that is building up during the winter season. The rules
have been tinkered with, but by-and-large, the game of “basket ball” has not
changed drastically since Naismith’s original list of “Thirteen Rules” was tacked
up on a bulletin board at Springfield College.
