Purpose of XTW Import
The purpose of XTW Import is to automate the process of merging bi-weekly payroll data
into a single file with the correct format to be used in the payroll process.
Execution of XTW Import
Execution of the XTW Import utility requires three files:
1. A batch file (*.bat),
2. XTW_ImportV1.4.exe, and
3. XTW_Import_settings.xml.
The XTW Import utility is executed by double-clicking the batch file, or calling it from
code. The batch file calls the XTW_ImportV1.4.exe program file and passes to it the
location of the XTW_Import_settings.xml settings file. This settings file contains the
names and location of the tip-wage data files, and the location to which to save the
resulting data files.

XTW Import V1.4 2
Operation of XTW Import
The batch file contains the simple command,
XTW_ImportV1.4 ./
which begins execution of the program file and passes to it the location of the settings
file (./ signifies that the settings file is located in the same directory as the program file).
XTW Import begins by collecting data from the settings file, including the location of the
tip-wage data files (InPath), the location to which to save the resulting data files
(OutPath), and the names of the tip-wage data files (FileWeek1 and FileWeek2):
<XTWImportSettings>
<DataFiles>
<InPath>../DataFiles/</InPath>
<OutPath>../DataFiles/</OutPath>
<FileWeek1>tip_wage_export_wk1.txt</FileWeek1>
<FileWeek2>tip_wage_export.txt</FileWeek2>
</DataFiles>
</XTWImportSettings>
The tip- and wage data is stored in the following columns: organization, department,
employee id, week end date, tip credit taken, and cash wage. XTW Import reads the
FileWeek1 and FileWeek2 data files and merges the tip and wage data for each
organization and employee id combination.
The resulting data and program notes are written to two files in the OutPath location:
1. tip_wage_summary_ mm-dd-yyyy.txt
2. tip_wage_LogFile_mm-dd-yyyy.txt

The summary file contains the merged tip-wage data in the following columns:
organization, a constant (“XTWSCR”), employee id, period end date, week 1 tip, week 1
wage, week 2 tip, and week 2 wage. A line from a summary file follows:
042C2K│XTWSCR │####### │07-14-2013│03.61│03.92│04.24│03.93
The log file contains a record of values from the settings file, date and time of execution,
week 1 and week 2 end dates, record of the existence of any null values in the data files,
and the location and name of the summary file.
