1. Monthly Report of the Calumet College of St. Joseph
Student Government
April 1, 2016
Good Morning All,
Our final month is upon this term of Student Government. I cannot stress enough how
proud I am of what my officers and I have accomplished throughout this year. The purpose of
these monthly reports is to inform the College of what we have done. They serve an additional
purpose for us. Monthly reports also function as a roadmap for future goals and endeavors. They
will also serve as our legacy.
It with pleasure that I announce that the Student Union of Calumet College of St. Joseph
has officially ratified a new Constitution. As I have mentioned in nearly every monthly report,
this has been one of our major projects the entire year. The student vote was a success. With a
total of 111 votes, only eight were opposed to the new Constitution. I firmly believe this
Constitution will allow Student Government to prosper long after my officers and I are gone. The
final step of this long process is the approval of the Constitution by the Academic Senate. I
foresee no reason why it will not be accepted.
The second thing to mention is the conducted survey about proposed schedule changes.
With 112 surveys, 56% disagreed that we should have a break in the middle of the day, 54% felt
that we should leave the time from 3:30 to 6:30 open for practice, 49% responded that we should
not add Friday classes, and 68% thought night classes should go from 6:30 to 9:30. With those
results, I made the recommendation that we do not have a break in the middle of the day, that we
leave 3:30 to 6:30 open two days a week, and that we move forward with Friday classes as part
of the culture change that needs to occur. The Academic Senate voted down all changed.
The final topic to cover is the Spring Student Forum. Turnout was low, so little was
discussed. However, very meaningful conversations took place regarding the proposed schedule
changes, book costs, and the building of dorms. As I said in the fall, a low turnout at the Student
Forum could indicate that there are not many problems this year.
We will continue to work our hardest during this final month that we have in office. We
do have a couple of things to accomplish before May rolls around. I look forward to the end of
the year celebration that will be thrown for club leaders and a possible fundraiser we would like
to see take place.
With gratitude,
Luke Matulewicz
President of the Student Body
