BIOPLAS manufactures and markets AW-11®/AW-20®, an envelope window film made from copolymers. The film has been designed with input from envelope manufacturers and converters to meet market needs. It offers increased yield compared to polystyrene films, cost savings of 8-23%, and reduces thickness deviations and static. Extensive testing has shown AW-11®/AW-20® has comparable or better runnability than polystyrene films on high-speed machines. The film is recyclable and approved for use with postal services worldwide.
2. For more than 30 years, BIOPLAS 2014 S.L., the former Ervisa,
has been the exclusive distributor of DOW Solutions for the
envelope markets in Spain and Portugal. We currently
manufacture and market a film with high added-value, based on
homopolymers and copolymers, covering the current needs and
demands of envelope converters. We closely cooperate with the
key players of the industry, using and integrating their wide
experience.
AW-11®/20® has been designed and developed from the
beginning under the guidance and with the cooperation of all
partners involved in the manufacturing process: Suppliers,
envelope converters, inserting companies, postal companies,
logistics, and envelope consumers, adapting the product to
current market needs and requirements.
AW-11®/20® is manufactured with raw material from leading
brands in the market in a-state-of-the-art manufacturing site
located in Asturias (Spain).
We are active members of FEPE (European Envelope
Manufacturers Association) in Europe as well as EMA (Envelope
Manufacturers Association) in North America.

*BIOPLAS 2014 S.L. has the copyright and pending universal patent for window envelope film based on copolymers. For that reason,
BIOPLAS has exclusive rights against any commercial product.
3. Yield / Raw Material
When switching to AW-11® with a caliper of 105 mil from Polystyrene with the same
caliper, the yield factor will already increase to approx. 14%. When switching from a
caliper of 115 mil at Polystyrene to AW-11® with a caliper of 115 mil, the yield factor
increases even more, namely to approx. 21%.
The main component for AW-11®/20® is copolymer, where the costs have historically
been below the costs for polystyrene. The difference lies between 8% and 23%.
Due to the natural properties of copolymer, marks, wrinkles, and tears do not occur
anymore in the finished window envelope, in comparison to Polystyrene.
Production Technology
Polystyrene thickness deviation is +/- 4%. The new product from BIOPLAS has reduced
the deviation to +/- 1%.
Due to its multilayer formulation (Vs. only one layer at polystyrene), our film obtains its
special features concerning rigidity, haze and appearance.
Special additives added during the manufacturing process of AW-11®/20® also erase the
static of the film.

AW-11®/20® Main Advantages
Runnability
No major adjustments in the envelope converting machine are necessary when using AW-11®/20®.
During tests with high speed machines, AW-11®/20® speeds were the same or even faster than regular
polystyrene film.
There is an estimated cost saving of 130 USD – 180 USD per million manufactured
envelopes

AW-20® was designed and developed from the beginning
under the guidance and with the cooperation of all partners
involved in the manufacturing process.
Our film can be used on both sides (matt/matt, gloss/matt)
providing two different finishing types of envelope-windows
in case of the gloss/matt film. Therefore, you can create two
different finishes with one film.
The high thickness/caliper (1,97 mil) provides excellent
rigidity, which is ideal for large-size envelopes, folders, and
stationery products.
Special additives added during the manufacturing process of
AW-20® erase the static of the film.
No major adjustments in the converting machines are
necessary when using AW-20®.

6. AW-11® is an environmentally friendly product:
Between 15% and 25% less film is used for the production of one single envelope, reducing
the environmental impact.
AW-11®/20® is a product free of Phthalates
AW-10®/20® has two recycling certificates, one for recycling of the film, the other for
recycling of paper with film. These certificates have been issued by well-known,
independent institutes.
AW-11®/20® has been approved and certified for the use with optical readers (OCR) and in
sorting machines by all major postal agencies in Europe and the US (USPS, ROYAL MAIL,
DEUTSCHE POST, DHL, LA POSTE).

7. Due to the greater transparency and clarity of AW-11®, the
legibility of addresses in the windows is improved. Also due to the
flexibility of AW-11, marks and scratches do not occur.
AW-11 is a product developed for the future, and it is in accordance
with current trends of major European envelope converters.
AW-11® has been widely tested at multiple manufacturing sites all
over Europe as well as at selected converters in the US and Mexico.
The tests were done on W+D and FL Smithe converting machines
with excellent results at any speed.

Adhesive manufacturers have developed several products that can be used
both with our product and regular polystyrene.
Successful tests have also been carried out with adhesives from national
manufacturers, f.i. in the UK, Spain, and Portugal.
We have partnered with following adhesive manufacturers:

9. AW-11® Formulation cost comparison
Due to the different composition of our copolymer formulation (only 60% of our raw material is
directly related to GPPS), our production costs are usually below the production costs of
Polystyrene.
- As price increases, GPPS prices rise more aggressively, reaching higher peaks.
- As price declines, GPPS prices reduce more slowly.
