2. CHAPTER 1
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
• According to Schultz et al (1995),
Recycling is often viewed as an
important aspect of an efficient and
effective solid waste management
system.
3. • The term recycling is defined as "The
process through which materials
previously used are collected,
processed, remanufactured, and
reused" Thus, recycling of waste helps
to reduce the amount of waste going
into landfills and incinerators.
4. Besides being an important solid waste
reduction and management strategy, it is
also a way to decrease resource throughput,
as using recycled materials means reducing
the amount of new resources needed to
manufacture a new product and it gave the
researchers of this study the idea in making
the multi-purpose chair.
5. CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
Reduce, reuse and recycle is a concept
that people everywhere are starting to
understand and apply to everyday life. Its
principles are quite basic, but are a
necessity for maintaining a sustainable
life.
6. RESEARCH PARADIGM
INPUT:
• PET Bottles
• PP Bottles
• Rice Husk
Ash
• Metal
• Steel
Handsaw
• Hand Drill
• Pyrolysis
• Metal Sheet
• Wheel
• Screw
PROCESS: OUTPUT:
• Gather Plastics (PET, PP) and
the binding agent (Rice Husk
Ash)
• Clean the plastics, (PET, PP)
• Create the Skeleton of the chair
• Melt the Plastics (Pyrolysis)
• Mix the materials (PET, PP
bottles, rice husk)
• Mold and shape it
• Dry for 24 Hours
• Use sand paper to smoothen
the surface of the product
• Multi- Purpose Chair
7. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
1. The Acceptability of this product in terms
of:
A. Durability
B. Cost of Production
C. Ergonomics
8. 2. At what ratio of PET
(Polyethylene Terephthalate), PP
(Polypropylene), BA (Binding
Agent), is the best configuration of
the Multi-purpose chair (MPC)?
9. 3. Is there a significant difference
between the ratio of PET, PP, BA
in the durability of MPC?
10. HYPOTHESIS
Ho: There is no significant difference
between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ratio in the
durability of MPC.
11. HYPOTHESIS
Ha: There is a significant difference
between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ration in the
durability of MPC.
12. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
The study focuses on the designing and
constructing of Multi-purpose foldable chair
and how will it benefit the users. P.E.T, PP
plastic, and BA will be used to create the
product. 5 respondents to test the
durability, and production method.
13. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
• To Environment
• To Students
• To Schools
• To Future Researchers
14. CHAPTER 2
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURES
The Multi-purpose wooden cabinet of Ian G. Mercado, et.
al,.(2018) is a piece of furniture which can be used as a work
table for two people, and a cabinet. This work was a suitable
invention for those people who live in a small apartment,
house, or any places that have limited space. It is a great
furniture which can be easily converted into study tables and
after serving its purpose it can be rearranged into cabinet
which you can put a lot of things that can help you maximize
space. It is not hard to arrange and rearrange this product as
they are flexible and comfortable enough to handle.
16. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research materials & apparatus/
equipment:
MATERIALS: plastics (PP, PET), rice husk
ash(RHA), metal, hand drill, metal
sheet, sandpaper, screw, wheel,
grinder, pyrolysis
17. RESEARCH PROCEDURES
Step 1: Gathering/ Collection of Materials
Step 2: Cleaning the collected materials
Step 3: Welding the frame (MPC)
18. Step 4: Melting the Plastic (pyrolysis)
Step 5: Mixing
Step 6: Molding
Step 7: Sanding and shaping the plastics
Step 8: Finishing touches and finalizing the product
19. DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE
• The researchers will test the
durability of the MPC in its different
form, involving subjecting the chair
to various stressors.
20. • The researchers’ choices of
materials will determine the
cost of production,
considering the desired
quality of the product.
21. • Through the tests, the researchers
can identify the weaknesses, areas of
improvement, potential
recommendations for design
enhancement or material changes of
the chair.
22. • The researchers will make sample
products with different types of ratio
from the three materials to be used;
the PET, PP, and the Rice husk(Binding
Agent). The best ratio to be used for
the final product will be determined.
23. • The researchers will conduct a survey
and will look for 5 people who will use
the MPC to share their perception
about the product when it comes to
the functionality, comfort level and its
aesthetics.
24. STATISTICAL TOOL
• The researchers will use Analysis of
Variance (ANOVA) to compare and
analyze if there are significant
differences on the durability, impact
resistance and tensile strength of the
different ratio of PET, PP bottles, and
rice husk..
25. • Post-hoc tests can be considered to be
used in identifying specific difference
between the materials if it is concluded
that there is a significant difference
between the materials.
