Throughmy journeyof becomingaHealthEducator,there are variousactivitiesIhave
participatedinthathave allowedme toassessneeds,assets,andcapacityforHealthEducation.Fall of
2015, mycolleaguesandIdevelopedafreshmanprogramdesignedtohelpreduce mental illness
amongstSIUE college students. We collectedprimaryandsecondarydatafrompriorcollege mental
healthprograms to developsurveys,andidentifiedstakeholders.

As an internatthe St.ClairCountyHealthDepartment,Ihave participatedinimplementing
programsfor citizensof St.ClairCounty,IL. Basedon the needsof citizensthroughcommunitysurveys
done previous,successfully,collectingover300 surveys.These surveysare usedtodeterminenew
programs,if needed. Ialsometwithlocal stakeholdersinaddressingthe mostattainable needsforthe
county.

As a future HealthEducator,I have implemented programs suchasStressmenProbs:Messages
for ManagingStress, andassistedwiththe BetterBirthOutcomesprogramat the St. ClairCountyHealth
Department.Asaninternat the St. ClairCountyHealthDepartment, mycolleaguesandI,has
implementedthe BetterBirthOutcomesprogram.Thisprogramisdesignedtoreduce the likelyhoodof
pretermbirths.Before implementingthisprogram, we usedstrategiestoensure cultural diversity,as
well asapplytheoriessuchasHealthBelief Model topromote successamongstthisprogram.

Fall 2015, mycolleaguesandIdevelopedthe StressmenProbsprogramamongstthe SIUE
freshmanstudents.Myprojectwas locatedinall of the freshman halls;Idesignedthree bulletinboards
withthree helpfulstepstomanagingstress.Toensure these boardswere successfulduring
implementation,Idevelopedanevaluationusingbothqualitative andquantitative data.

As an internatthe St.ClairCountyHealthDepartment,partof my jobis to administerand
manage the BetterBirth Outcome program. Throughstrategicplanning,mycollegeandIadministered
fiscal resourcestospecificpartsof the program. By doingso,we alsodevelopedabudgetandmanaged
were the moneywouldbe spent.

As an internatthe St.ClairCountyHealthDepartment,I servedas a healtheducationconsultant
whenconductingoutreachinthe St.ClairCountyarea. I provide assistance tolocal doctors,schools,

2. hospitals andnursesinexplainingthe importance of the BetterBirthOutcomesprogram andseeking
health-relatedreasoning.

As a future HealthEducator,I frequentlyadvocatedandcommunicatedforHealtheducation
program.While conductingoutreachforthe BetterBirthOutcomesprogram, I identified currentissues
that may affecta personinabilitylearnfromhealtheducation,andtailoredmessagestopriority
populationpregnantlow-incomemothers.Forexample,mostlow income motherslackproper
educationoncare fora childor children.Myjobisto access the programswe have now and ensure
these womenunderstandourmessagesthroughourdifferentmethods.
