The current National Flood Insurance Program is unsustainable. The after effects of Superstorm Sandy are about to displace thousands of New Jersey home owners - four years after the storm hit landfall - as new flood maps and insurance rates are released in 2016, many residents who were not affected by Sandy, are faced with two stark choices, raise their homes - or pay exorbitantly high, lender imposed, flood insurance rates… There are no grants for these people, who were never in a flood zone before, and whose homes saw no damage from Sandy, and most can’t afford to pay for a loan to raise their home, on top of their existing mortgages. The NFIP is broke, and it is hurting every tax payer in the country.
