LHS “Cougar Marching Band” and Jazz Choir “Swingbeat” Performed At Disneyland
The LHS “Cougar Marching Band” and Jazz Choir, “Swingbeat,”
arrived safely home the weekend of March 1st from their trip to
Disneyland. “They had a fabulous trip and were simply amazing
in their performances and had some of the best Disney studio
experiences ever,” shared LHS Choir Director Katy Trapp. She
also shared they were all exhausted, but in a good way! There
were 97 of them traveling and the students were great.
Super Foods for Super Health
It’s not easy to eat well all the time, but diet is key to preventing the top three causes of death in this country: heart disease, cancer,
and stroke. You don’t have to have a virtuous diet every meal to see benefits from adding healthy foods to your daily diet. Super
foods are super healthy foods with nutrients that can help lower cholesterol, reduce risk of heart disease and cancer and may
improve your mood. Nutritionist Elizabeth Somer said, “I’d say that 50% to 70% of suffering could be eliminated by what people
eat and how they move: heart disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension can all be impacted.”
Super foods are mostly plant-based and are nutritionally dense. Add one or more to each meal to see the health benefits.
Tips for your good health provided by the
District’s subscription to WSSDA On Call.

coming and invited them back again next year. Congratulations Mrs. Trapp!!

LAKEWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL:
The counselors at Lakewood Middle School, Marli Bartness and Leiann
DeVelder, have been busy creating a college-going culture this year at LMS.
Students are writing letters to college admissions offices, bulletin boards
and videos are displaying college-of-the-month information, and guest
speakers have met with students about college and career opportunities.
Each Wednesday is College Gear Day, and in photo (right) Mrs. Jeanne
Forbes and Ms. DeVelder are showing their school spirit with pride.
COUGAR CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:
Cougar Creek Elementary School held a very special assembly on March 11th as
part of their “Oso Remembrance and Celebration of First Responders.” The idea
for this event came from 5th grader Lydia Hots, whose father was the fire chief
in charge of much of the rescue effort. Lydia is also the granddaughter of CCE
Custodians John and Doreen Needham. The purpose of the event was to honor
leaders in our community, specifically the first responders who helped in the
rescue efforts during the Oso mudslide that occurred last March. Fire
departments that were invited to this special event included: Oso, Getchell,
Marysville, Silvana, and Arlington. The Snohomish County Search & Rescue
helicopter and crew also came to the school. The helicopter landed in the
morning and gave tours to every class throughout the day. An afternoon
assembly was held to honor the first responders. This event was spearheaded by
ASB Advisors Ricci Peters and Sue Krause.

BETWEEN USPAGE 4 LHS “Cougar Marching Band” and Jazz Choir “Swingbeat” Performed At Disneyland The LHS “Cougar Marching Band” and Jazz Choir, “Swingbeat,” arrived safely home the weekend of March 1st from their trip to Disneyland. “They had a fabulous trip and were simply amazing in their performances and had some of the best Disney studio experiences ever,” shared LHS Choir Director Katy Trapp. She also shared they were all exhausted, but in a good way! There were 97 of them traveling and the students were great. Super Foods for Super Health It’s not easy to eat well all the time, but diet is key to preventing the top three causes of death in this country: heart disease, cancer, and stroke. You don’t have to have a virtuous diet every meal to see benefits from adding healthy foods to your daily diet. Super foods are super healthy foods with nutrients that can help lower cholesterol, reduce risk of heart disease and cancer and may improve your mood. Nutritionist Elizabeth Somer said, “I’d say that 50% to 70% of suffering could be eliminated by what people eat and how they move: heart disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension can all be impacted.” Super foods are mostly plant-based and are nutritionally dense. Add one or more to each meal to see the health benefits. Tips for your good health provided by the District’s subscription to WSSDA On Call. He told them what a joy it was to have these “amazing groups” back performing at Disneyland. The Disneyland Park Director, Mitch, also sought them out and thanked them for coming and invited them back again next year. Congratulations Mrs. Trapp!! • 6. BETWEEN USPAGE 6 LAKEWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL: The counselors at Lakewood Middle School, Marli Bartness and Leiann DeVelder, have been busy creating a college-going culture this year at LMS. Students are writing letters to college admissions offices, bulletin boards and videos are displaying college-of-the-month information, and guest speakers have met with students about college and career opportunities. Each Wednesday is College Gear Day, and in photo (right) Mrs. Jeanne Forbes and Ms. DeVelder are showing their school spirit with pride. COUGAR CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Cougar Creek Elementary School held a very special assembly on March 11th as part of their “Oso Remembrance and Celebration of First Responders.” The idea for this event came from 5th grader Lydia Hots, whose father was the fire chief in charge of much of the rescue effort. Lydia is also the granddaughter of CCE Custodians John and Doreen Needham. The purpose of the event was to honor leaders in our community, specifically the first responders who helped in the rescue efforts during the Oso mudslide that occurred last March. Fire departments that were invited to this special event included: Oso, Getchell, Marysville, Silvana, and Arlington. The Snohomish County Search & Rescue helicopter and crew also came to the school. The helicopter landed in the morning and gave tours to every class throughout the day. An afternoon assembly was held to honor the first responders. This event was spearheaded by ASB Advisors Ricci Peters and Sue Krause. LMS Students at Sno-Isle Skills Center learning about career opportunities.
