2. Vogue
Vogue is one of my main competitors due to the contents
being relatively similar to what my magazine will be
including. Another similarity will be the simplistic and
modern design, that I will take inspiration from for my
own magazine.
The difference between my magazine and Vogue, is that
my products are regionally based, and will be connecting
the contents to hot topics in my area. The models and
artists included will be primarily from my region,
although I may include some international stars, just to
let my readers feel like they are also involved in World
wide news.
Therefore, to be stand a better chance of having more
sales and competing with Vogue, I will need to ensure
that my content is up to date and more interesting for
my primary target audience.
3. Cosmopolitan
Cosmopolitan is another one of my main competitors because they set out their
magazines in a way I am inspired by. They also include content similar, such as
fashion, lifestyle tips and celebrity gossip.
The difference between my magazine and Cosmopolitan is that again, mine is only
aimed at specific target audience here in the North East, in contrast Cosmo has an
audience nationally and internationally.
I will hopefully be strong competition to Cosmo in my region, because I want to try
and be more up to date with tips and tricks, and let the readers know that my
magazine is more trendy and current than any other national and regional lifestyle
magazine. I also think readers in my region will be more interested in topics
surrounding their area. For example, pages on new makeup stores opening or
where you can find the best fashion deals in the North East, rather than all over the
country.
4. THE CRACK
THE CRACK is another strong competitor to my magazine,
this is because it is also based in the North East of England
and includes contents reflecting this specific region.
The differences between my magazine and THE CRACK is
that even though the contents are similar, the genre is
completely different. This is because my magazine is
mainly aimed at teenage girls who are interested in
fashion/ gossip/ makeup etc. THE CRACK is more for Indie
music fans, and people that are interested in culture. The
design is also quite simple, with hardly any cover lines on
the front cover, this differentiates from mine, as I am
planning on having more than just one or two, as I think
this will attract a strong secondary audience.
This gives me a good advantage to attract my specific
target audience, as there is no other magazine like mine in
the region. This is in terms of content and design,
therefore there is a gap in the market for my magazine.
5. Conclusion
Conclusively, my magazine will differ from national lifestyle
magazines as it will directly focus on regional fashion and news.
I want to include information on where to find the best fashion
deals, and interview up and coming celebrities and artists.
Furthermore, it will differ from other regional magazines, as
mine is based on a special genre, that no other product in the
North East has. Many are focused on music or culture, whereas I
want mine to be a mix of everything lifestyle orientated, and
mainly aimed at females for the primary target audience.
Therefore, there is a large gap in the North East market for my
magazine.
