Each week students will bring home their red homework folder on Mondays containing spelling homework on a yellow tic-tac-toe sheet and notebook paper, vocabulary words on a green sheet to discuss at home, and two white math sheets to complete and return on Fridays. The teacher encourages practicing spelling words at least 3 times a week using provided materials or an online spelling practice website. Homework is due back on Fridays to participate in Friday Fun activities. Students should bring a healthy snack each day and have a book available for 15-20 minutes of quiet reading time.
1. Hello Families,
We are getting right to work in 3rd grade! I wanted to share what you can
expect for homework each week. The students will bring home their red homework
folder each Monday. Here is what is included:
Spelling – Yellow tic-tac-toe sheet and a piece of notebook paper. You do
not need to send back the yellow sheet (keep at home to practice). I
would like the students to practice their words each week at least 3 times.
Choose from the yellow sheet, you could also have them write each word
a few times, or check out this website:
http://www.spellingcity.com/schneiderl/ This is a terrific site that
allows the students to practice their words in many different ways. Just
mark on their notebook paper that they visited the website! I’m not as
concerned with how they are practicing, as long as they are practicing
their words! Also, I will only test the students on the first 15 words for
the first half of the year. If students are interested we can add the
challenge words later in the year.
Vocabulary – Green sheet. These words will be used throughout each
week with our language story. Talk about their meaning at home and
they will be tested on them on Friday. Nothing to send back for this.
Math – Two white sheets. Each week you will get two sheets and both
should be returned.
Homework is due back Friday morning in order to participate in Friday Fun!!!

Remember to send a healthy snack each day. We will have our snack
around 10:45. Students are welcome to have a water bottle at their desk,
please make sure it has a secure top to minimize spills!
Students should have a book available to them each day. It can be a
library book, book from home, or one from the classroom. We will have
15-20 minutes of quiet reading time each day. Check in with your child
every now and then to see what they’re reading!
I think that’s all for now! Please feel free to contact me anytime. I’m looking forward
to a great year with your child!
