SHOW DREE BREES VIDEO!
You have to think of leadership clubs as building teams. Look at the Saints Superbowl team.
They had strong, positive relationships between the players and coaches.
Think about Drew Brees. He is the perfect blue print of a leader. His passion was apparent in the video.
He helped build a sense of belonging for his teammates. They all have a common identity-WE ARE NEW ORLEANS.
He says its “ABOUT US”.
Ways to instill that within leadership groups: identify leaders like Drew with passion and let them loose.
Help build common identities through t-shirts, slogans, themes and use these as goals for your group.
Your leadership team needs freedom. They need to develop and value their sense of independence.
Adults have to trust youth and give them space to succeed.
They have to have opportunities-local, parish, region and state-state boards.
Have fun-the Saints have fun on the field. Your leadership teams need to have fun!
The New Orleans saints had to think outside the box and hired a new defensive coach last year. The result was a superbowl.
Drew Brees tells his team to Be Special, Finish Strong and Spell Greatness.
What powerful expectations those are.
Challenge your leadership team to be special by developing hands on programming that is engaging and fun for other club members
Finish strong by experiencing new leadership roles and carrying out the expectations from these roles
Spell greatness by thinking outside of the box. Greatness is only experienced when pushed beyond limits. Thinking outside the box requires thinking beyond the current limitations the group has.
Youth Voice-it has to be in every phase. How?
Youth/Adult Partnerships-adults have to be there to support youth. How many times do you meet with your leadership team members? How can you build more of these partnerships? Are you willing to offer support? Do they always need your support?
Planning-Logic Model, Officer Meetings, Agendas, Officer Retreat
Recruitment-Mess Fess, Facebook Page, Incentives for members who bring friends to first meeting
Meeting Format-Educational yet FUN-ice breakers/teambuilding activities-make sure youth use experiential learning model-reflect and apply (share, process, generalize and apply)
