SCIENCE Frankenstein’s Hand
Did you know that when you mix vinegar and bicarbonate of
soda that you get a chemical reaction?
 Grade 1 /2 R and CLG explored what happens when you
mix together different substances.
 What we did---You need-- a glass jar, a rubber glove
(disposable gloves are fine) 3 tablespoons of vinegar and 2
teaspoons of baking soda. (It also works with bicarbonate of
soda)
 Put the vinegar in the glass jar.
 Carefully spoon the bicarbonate of soda
into the glove.
 Attach the glove to the top of the jar
allowing the bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to
mix.
 Then watch Frankenstein’s hand stir to
life!!
‘Here is the reaction of the students’
- We saw the ‘bicarb’ of soda and vinegar and it made carbon dioxide- Josiah.
- It was good but you have to be careful it doesn’t pop.-Julie and Zahra
- The glove came alive and it started rising.- Liam and Donte
- We had lots of fun doing the experiment called Frankenstein’s hand. Jessie.
- It was very cool that the glove came to life.- Cooper and James.
- We liked it when we were seeing the glove
expand and everyone was saying explode,
explode, explode! It didn’t explode. –Eric and
Jack.
- The glove had air inside and it floated on the
jar because it had Carbon dioxide in it. -
Gabby, Angela and EJ
- We liked it because the hand was getting big and fat like a balloon. We also
liked it because we like science. Jack and Banjo
- We think that it was kind of cool when Frankenstein’s hand was blowing up-
Will and Lewis.
- I saw a glove and a vinegar bottle and heard fizzing and popping. Nick and
Mika.
- Hannah, Jazz and Shanae worked
together. Hannah thought it was
awesome because she saw the glove blow
up into a hand. Jazz thought it was really
cool and Shanae thought it was awesome.
- Millicent liked when they put the
special powder into the glove and the
glove blew up. - Millicent and Alira.
- My buddy and I enjoyed seeing it rise up
and see how it happened. We were lucky
to see it three times - Abbey and Luke.
- Frankenstein’s hand experiment exploded.-Dylan.
- 1/2R and CLG had a really good experience.-Coby and Angus.
- We thought the experiment was cool. – Mason and Connor.
- We put the ingredients of white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda in the cup and
it fizzed up and it was cool. Cody and Finn.
- Meah, Allanah and Annie thought that the experiment was really cool
especially when the soda reacted and made a really weird fizzy sound and the
glove filled with air.
