1. Media Revision- YEAR 13
Film Industry
Case Study examples:
Where the truth lies (Film)
Issues concerned in this film were the nudity, sex and the theme of the film. Had
a lot of detail when it came to the sex issue but it was not lightened with
humour so made it stronger. I didn’t think the scene was realistic and was very
dramatic. I personally thought that the film was a 15 but I then came to realise
that it actually got a 18 because of its strong detail.
Airplane (Film)
The scene was people of the older age on a plane and one male offer a women
some form of alcohol and she refuses it but then she then starts snorting
cocaine. The film wanted a PG but the issues in this film was the drug use.
Although you see a women taking drugs she does deny the offer of alcohol which
is a good thing for the younger viewer and the drug use is almost ‘Fantastical’. I
thought that the film would get a 12A but it was actually given a PG.
Vera Drake (Film)
The film Vera Drake is about a women in the 1950’s who did abortions. The
scene showed Vera arriving at someone’s house and preparing to do the
abortion but you didn’t see anything else. I think the main issue is the theme of
the film although you do not see anything and there is not much detail on how
to do it. I personally thought that the film was a 15 but it was actually a 12A. It
got a 12A because nothing untreat seen sensitive movie and there was no blood
or gore.
Love and Hate (British Drama)
The programme was aimed at a teenage audience but the language in it was
strong so straight away it had to go up to a 15. There was also strong violence
and the theme of it gave it such a high certificate which was a 15.
Grand Theft Auto IV (Video Game)
The video game Grand Theft Auto is and 18 but the trailor is only a 15. Although
there is no sense in this the trailer only got a 15 because there was no blood or
gore shown in the violent parts although there was strong language.
