TOWARDS TOMORROW The careers I am considering today
Considering 3 careers: novelist, biologist, and missionary. My questions are: Which one is the best for me What are the pros and cons for each When I decide on one, what education/qualifications do I need to meet?
Novelist career; Pros: Self employed One of my biggest passions is writing Have lots of freedom Cons: Competitive market Won’t get any money until I publish something, so I would need a second job. Job out look is not as good as others.
College education I would need: A major in English With probably some journalism courses as well Probably the easiest college course I could accomplish.
Biologist Pros Work with animals Travel good outlook Cons Takes the longest to complete college
College education I would need: First I would need a bachelor’s degree in biology Then I would need to get my masters, and finally a doctoral degree It takes at least 11 years to get a doctoral degree.
Missionary Pros I love helping people Travel Learn new cultures Cons Be away from home a long time Have to raise my own money for internships to start this career Only gives me the basic needs while I’m in other countries
College education I would need: Any major I decide to get can help a missionary somewhere I would probably get a English major with a Spanish minor so I could go to Spanish speaking countries and teach them English Have to take seminary classes with some theology classes.
All in all: I still haven’t decided I have plans for next year that allow me to change my mind and pursue the career that is right for me.
The end
