I am writing this letter in support of Kyle Erwin as part of your application for practicum
at the Dallas VA. I have known Mr. Erwin for three years and have had experience with
him in my ethics course and as a clinical supervisor. Mr. Erwin is a passionate student
who is driven, demonstrates a strong work ethic, and is interpersonally delightful.
During his doctoral training, Mr. Erwin has been working to develop professional
competence in the knowledge, skill, and interpersonal domains. He puts effort into his
work and comes to class prepared. Consequently, he is able to discuss and integrate
academic material, and also have opinions that are pertinent to others’ learning.
During his current practicum experience, Mr. Erwin has demonstrated a consistent and
non-defensive approach to constructive feedback. I have been impressed with Mr.
Erwin’s focus on his internal process, the therapeutic process, the willingness to take
risks and try new interventions in his work, and his determination to grow and develop as
a therapist. Furthermore, Mr. Erwin has utilized supervision appropriately, has handled
his cases very well, and has provided constructive and supportive feedback to his peers.
Mr. Erwin is developmentally on target with his therapeutic skills, and at times exceeds
his peers in some of the evaluated skills areas. I am certain that Mr. Erwin will continue
to identify and work on his growth edges as he progresses in his skill development.
I can assure you that Mr. Erwin is a strong candidate for your site. If you provide him
with this opportunity, I believe you will be pleased with his work and the contributions he
will make. I know that Mr. Erwin will hit the ground running and will continue to grow
and develop as a therapist. Ultimately, I feel that he will contribute greatly to the
profession. I am very happy to recommend Mr. Erwin without reservation. If I can
provide any additional comments, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Jenelle C. Fitch
