Numerical modeling through computer simulation allows engineers to analyze the effects of various parameters on complex systems in a cost-effective manner compared to physical experimentation. It enables the iterative improvement of models and understanding of problems through "numerical experimentation". In some cases where physical experiments may be infeasible, such as modeling a nuclear reactor accident, computer simulation provides the only means of analysis. Numerical modeling has applications across many industries involving heat transfer, including power generation, building design, manufacturing, materials processing, waste management, and more.
