Overweight professional men ii
1. Overweight, handsome and professional

2. Overweight = slob
• It is a sad but true fact that guys that are overweight are
judged by their appearance. This has consequences for their
career and paycheck.
• Get over it.
• Women face this all the time: When you are 20 and skinny,
everything looked good.
• Time to explore haberdashery (sounds cool, yeah?)
14. • No, you do not need to
wear a three piece suit
every day. You wouldn’t go
swimming in a raincoat.
• You will always need to
dress a bit more formally to
carry the weight.

15. Casual Fridays
Summer
Winter
•Hawaiian shirt
•Shorts above knee
•White or colored socks
•Favorite white/blue running shoes
•Funky T-shirt, untucked
•Dark Brown khaki pants
•Black or colored socks
•Favorite white/blue running shoes
designbyhumans.com sizes up to 5XL
17. Untuckit brand men’s shirts
I have never purchased (or washed), but their marketing is dead on for overweight men
18. More formal
Visiting clients, interviews, trips to headquarters
•Button down dress shirt
(spread collar) in a color or
small pattern, permanently
rolled just below the elbow
sleeves
•Black or dark brown slacks
•Black socks
•Black running shoes
20. Business Trip or VIP Visitor: Vest
•Plus button-down shirt
(long or short)
•Dark pants
•Dress shoes (comfortable)
Rockport or Clarks for
comfortable dress shoes
21. Big City, Court, Wedding = Suspenders
•Plus button down shirt
(long or short)
•Dark pants
•Dress shoes
(comfortable)
22. Basic engineering for the overweight
• Can you still wear the same size pants you did 20
years ago? Sure, if you belt them around your knees.
Underbelly waistband = short legs, weird torso
You are overweight, you are not deformed
23. Pro-Suspenders
• Belt at midbelly isn’t very stable: “it’s hard to keep a belt on a
beach ball”. Suspenders prevent butt crack.
• Suspenders are more comfortable than a tight belt around a
large midsection.
• Suspenders are sexy.
24. Going to the nation’s capital? Tie
•Plus button down shirt
(long or short)
•Dark pants
•Dress shoes
(comfortable)
25. The trouble with suits
• Yes, yes, everything we wear should be made
to fit (cool word - “bespoke”)
• Current styles in suits: close-fitted, no pleats,
don’t work for overweight men.
• Suits, three piece are hot, as in sweltering.
26. Barong Tagalog: Any summer formal event where
you are not the corpse.
Filipino alternative
•Affordable made to order
•Pull over with front embroidery
•Long or short sleeve
•Not made to be tucked
•Loose cool crisp cotton
•Mandarin collar or spread collar
•Buttoned collar, no tie

Yup. That’s our Prime Minister
27. Cuban Guayabera
Cuban alternative to the black wool suit
•Affordable made to order
•Fine, tiny pleats, front and back
•Long or short sleeve
•Not made to be tucked
•Loose cool crisp cotton
•Open spread collar, no tie
28. Bespoke
Order of Operations:
1. Have a Barong or Guayabera made to your measurements online.
2. Pick out a comfortable blazers, to be worn with complimentary pants and
have them altered to fit you. Pick great, light, wool fabrics. Shop the thrift
store.
3. Try out a tailor by having him make a bespoke vest
1. It’s good to have one black three-piece suit. Unless you live in NYC or
Toronto the cost of a bespoke suit is probably only twice as much as Big &
Tall off the rack: from $500 to $1100.
5. If you have that much money you need to start having your shirts altered or
made to order.
29. It isn’t just your clothes, it’s your silhouette
Carry a full sized umbrella
Get a stylish winter/rain coat
Lose the backpack

31. Overweight, handsome, and
professional.
• Yes it’s unfair. Get over it. Laugh your way
into the corner office.
• Haberdashery is fun
• The right clothes make you confident
• The confidence makes you successful
