5. Concept
This conceptual design for a new Tom Douglas Serious Pie is grounded in the
idea of treasures, which are unexpected findings. As locals and visitors
explore Capitol Hill’s Pine Street neighborhood, they will discover this hidden
culinary treasure: handcrafted pizza, adventurous new design, and engaging
experience.
The exploration starts with a cave-like spatial experience that expands into a
high ceiling in the main dining area, giving the feeling of discovery and openness.
The visitors’ focus is set on the center structure that highlights the signature
stove representing the grand treasure of Serious Pie. Turquoise patina is
exposed through neutral surfaces; turquoise is used for the reason that it is
rare and seen as a prized gem. Retail is placed near the entry where all visitors
have the opportunity to discover Tom Douglas products. There are many hidden
treasures that go undiscovered, the new Serios Pie design encourages the
guest to return again and again, for an adventurous and engaging experience.
