• While it is true that every age cohort is poised for consistent growth over the next handful of decades, the
percentage of the population falling in the 25 to 39 and 65+ range have pulled away from the rest of the pack. This
represents both a younger, professional workforce that has been migrating to Tampa over the last few years in
addition to a historically popular destination for the retirement age community. From 2010-2018 alone, these
groups have grown by 14.1 percent and 27.6 percent, respectively.
• To match these population trends, the healthcare industry is expected to grow quickly over the next 5-7 years as
well. This has already begun to manifest itself as a number of new healthcare buildings have been built. Since
2010, 26 new healthcare buildings were constructed across Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
• In addition, occupations such as Physician Assistants, Home Health Aides, and Nurse Practitioners are projected to
lead employment growth on a percentage basis, increasing by over 30 percent each over the next 7 years.
