1. 2 Dimensional - Definition with Examples
What is a two-dimensional shape?
In geometry, a two-dimensional shape can be defined as a flat plane figure or
a shape that has two dimensions – length and width.
Two-dimensional or 2-D shapes do not have any thickness and can be measured in
only two faces.
We can classify figures on the basis of the dimensions they have.
A circle, triangle, square, rectangle and pentagon are examples of two-dimensional
shapes.
Fun Facts
A point is zero-dimensional, while a line is one-dimensional, for we can only measure its length.

Instead of handing out colouring 2D shapes worksheets, show you child pictures of two-
dimensional and three- dimensional shapes. Ask them to identify each as two- and
three- dimensional and justify their answers.
