1. PITCH FOR INSOMNIA.
By Kieron McKeown and Louis Price.
Film Slogan-
Peace in
revenge.
“Desperation hits John Dean as he is
sent into turmoil over the death of his
parents…”
3. “Insomnia”
Why we chose it.
We chose the title Insomnia because we feel it links
to the main character, and clearly shows to the
audience what he is like and how the film is
possibly going to play out.
How we got the idea.
Both of us had different ideas, one was of a detective case for a
missing person and the other was that a there was a boy with a
mental disability that wanted to get revenge for the death of his
parents.
We saw how different our ideas were but we decided to put
them together to have the story of a former marine looking
into the deaths of a mother and father while a young boy is
descending into insanity.
4. Samuel Crooke is a person who copes with PTSD
he finds it difficult to go through life when he
hears news about the deaths of people around
him, especially because of the deaths of his
friends in the navy and the loss of his wife. He
feels like it should still be his honour to protect
and serve those who cannot.
Characters.
John Dean is a young boy who is starting out in
sixth form but when he was seven his mom and
dad were found dead after hearing nothing from
them the day before. This along with the
mental disability that worsens over time is
what causes him to do the things he does.
5. SETTING.
The setting for the first two minuets was at a graveyard either in the
morning or at night, if it were in the morning the scene may feel more
calm and shows that the main character is still pure, it way also work
because if Samuels waring dark clothes it makes him stand out as a
shady character
If it were at night it would also work because it may be used to show
that John is slowly falling into insanity and turning dark and for
Samuel, it makes it look as if he is watching from the shadows and
never engages in a convocation with John.
6. OPENING.
In the opening 2 minuets of our production we are
introduced to the two main characters, John Dean
and Samuel Crooke. This is part of the graveyard
scene and is the crucial part for finding out about
John as his parents are dead and he wants to find
out who the culprit is.
We believe that this is effective because it gives the audience
something to think about, how did the parents die? Why is Samuel
there? Is this the start, middle or end of the film? We believe that it
is effective because it lets the audience assume that something is
going to happen because of the event in the opening, it also lets
them guess what may have happened at the start.
7. Audience Research.
We have interviewed Mr Arthur and asked for his
opinion for things related to our chosen genre
thriller. There was also an online survey that was
made so that if anyone wanted too they could fill
it in and we could see their responses,.
“What do you like about thriller?”
“Do you watch the first two
minuets of a film, if so why?”
“What is your
favourite thriller
film?”
“Mr Arthur- Yes because it is what
lets you know if a film is going to be
action packed or more of a horror”
“Mr Arthur- James Bond because of the
fast paced action and the fights
between characters.”
“Anonymous- The Dark Knight.”
“Anonymous- Because most of the time when I
watch the opening it tells us most of the story
and usually it shows us a small glimpse of the
ending usually and what is about to happen in
the film so it makes me want to watch more.
“Mr Arthur- The fight scenes are my
favourite as they are full of action.
“Anonymous- Anticipation and the
Uncertainty of the film”
8. TARGET AUDIENCE
We have chosen our target audience to be 16-34 year olds
because most people aged 16 and above like to watch films that
are fast paced and leave a little to the imagination, we found
this out through the interview with Mr Arthur and the
anonymous response from the survey.
Both responses we got stated that they like the idea of a fast
paced scene where a lot happens, and that they like when a
thriller lets the audience think about what will happen next.
