Outsourced Services
The rental Computers which are used by customers to do tasks fall under a workgroup by
the name POSTNET.
PostNet Brooklyn outsources its IT support. Their network is designed and managed by
Matrix Hatfield. According to The store manager Mandy, Matrix sends a technician once a
month to update whatever needs an update, and to also do a maintenance check of the
entire network, as well as running an inspection of all nodes that exist within the network.
PostNet works together with Synix Technology. Synix is in charge of PostNet’s Email,
Mailbox manager and the website hosting. Synix also hosts branch discussions for PostNet.
IT Concerns Void by the Organization
1. There isno way of trackingcomputerusage.
o There isa concernthat there isno wayto see if anyone hashackedthe computer,or
loggedintothe system.Andalsonowayfor themto see if someone has
downloadedlarge filesthatmightdepletetheirmonthlycapbundle of 20 Gig.
2. Theyrun on a fibre cable systemthatisconnectedandbelongstothe BrooklynMall forthe
internetconnectionandTelephone line.
o If the Mall’snetworkdies,the shoplosesinternetconnection,andtherefore cannot
proceedwithnormal businessprocesses.Theycanonlyre-route telephone callsto
theircell phones,buthave noalternative InternetService Provider.
3. PoorBack-Up.
o There isno simple orautomatedbackupstrategyinplace forall systems. They
performa manual backupfor systemearlyinthe morningbefore the shopopens,
and thisstrategydoesnotdo backupfor all computers.Itonlybackupsfor the Point
of salesclientcomputers.
4. There isone person/Clientwhorentsacomputerforthe entire dayto helphisclientwith
online applications,andthisthereforecreatesunnecessarycongestioninthe shop,because
people are waitingforthe one persontohelpwiththe online application. These clientwait
for upto 5 hoursto get assistance fromthisone person.
