2. What is
Burnout?
Do you ever feel like you’re going to be
crushed by your to do list? Or you have
this high bar set for yourself but each
day it seems like that bar is getting
higher and you're stretching more and
more to get there? Or that you messed
up in one way or another and there is
no way you’ll be able to recover from
the set back? You very well might be
struggling with burnout.
- Burnout is the emotional and physical
exhaustion that is the result of exposure
to environmental and internal stressors.
Or also defined as a psychological state
thought to be a stress reaction to ones
reduced ability to meet the demands of
their occupation.
3. The Cause
- This can be as simple or complex as you want to make it, but bottom line is
burnout comes from putting more on your plate than you can handle. Or being
able to handle said metaphoric plate for a time until it crushes you.
- Examples:
◦ Too large of a course load.
◦ Lack of adequate sleep/unhealthy sleeping pattern.
◦ Low grades or a single poor score.
◦ A lack of free time and therefore a lack of social interactions, hobbies, and life.
◦ Impossibly high expectations/requirements.
◦ Family trouble, financial trouble, relationship trouble.
◦ The list could go on, but I think you understand…Also we hope these Memes
are painting a clear picture.
4. Signs and Symptoms
- You’ll know it when you see it, but here are just a few more frequent symptoms of a burnout.
◦ Constant exhaustion
◦ Lack of motivation
◦ Constant frustration
◦ Suffering grades
◦ Difficulty paying attention
◦ Feeling disengaged with family, friends, and peers
◦ Depression/anxiety
◦ Eating disorder: Binge eating to cover emotions. A lack of eating or even bulimia
