LINCOLN HERITAGE COUNCIL WELCOMES THE SHAWNEE TRAILS COUNCIL
AS THE WESTERN SERVICE AREA
Louisville, Kentucky, March 20, 2012 — On April 1, 2012 the communities served by the
former Shawnee Trails Council will be served by the Lincoln Heritage Council, which is
headquartered in Louisville.
The former Shawnee Trails Council territory became the council's Western Service Area, joining
our three existing geographical service areas (Southern Indiana, Central Kentucky, and Metro
Louisville).
The territory transfer expanded the Lincoln Heritage Council’s service area to 64 counties in four
states (Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Tennessee). The new Lincoln Heritage Council now
provides service to 36,000 youth members, over 10,000 adult volunteers, and 1,000 units. This
makes the Lincoln Heritage Council the 17th largest council in America.
To provide exceptional service to the Western Service Area six full-time staff members have
been added a field director (responsible for membership), a development director, and four
district executives (based in Bowling Green, Madisonville, Owensboro, and Paducah).

Council and district activities, day camps, roundtables, and other district functions continued as
planned, and all district committees and commissioner staffs will remain in place.
Camp Roy C. Manchester operated as planned this past summer.
In the past four years, the Lincoln Heritage Council has invested more than $1 million into
facility improvements to enhance the Scouting experience. With the new territory, units from
across the expanded council will now have access to four outstanding camping facilities: Phil
Pfeffer Scout Reservation (Camp Roy C. Manchester) in Benton, KY, the Badgett Scott
Reservation (Wildcat Hollow) near Russellville, KY, the Harry S. Frazier, Jr. Scout Reservation
(home of Camp Crooked Creek) near Clermont, KY, and Tunnel Mill Scout Reservation near
Charlestown, IN.
The national Scout Shop in Owensboro closed on March 31, 2012. However, the Lincoln
Heritage Council plans to open satellite stores in the Western Service Area in the very near
future.
You can reach our office at 1-877-334-2674 and the Louisville Scout Shop at 502-267-8092.
“I am truly excited about the opportunity we will have together to strengthen the Scouting
program in the 64 counties we will serve. I look forward to learning from you and also sharing
some of what we've learned in the century since we started out as the old Louisville Area
