3. S is in the form of organ S compounds.
Hydrogen sulfur is inorganic S compound.
Is harmful because its corrosive nature.
organ S compounds are acidic and non acidic.
Acidic S compounds are thiols (mercaptans).
Thiophene, sulfides and disulfides are non-acidic.
Extensive research has been carried out to identify some sulfur
compounds in a narrow light petroleum fraction.

5. HDS uses types of catalysts to add H in order to reduce
unwanted S compounds.
Requires expensive, high-pressure, high-temperature
(400 – 550°C).
The catalyst consists of an alumina base impregnated
with cobalt and molybdenum.
As the oilsupplies get more sour, higher pressures and
