Doshas are the essential energy which control the overall operations of the
body. In other words, the physiology of the human body is administered by
three vital forces which cannot be estimated in any sense but can only be
observed and managed. Each person has a unique combination of doshas.
This is known as the body constitution.
The three primary energy sources in the body, or doshas according to
ayurveda are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

Vata dosha can be cold, dry, and light, and is the force that controls the
movement, manages the nervous system, and supervises the waste
elimination. In ancient Ayurvedic science, vata is the base aspect of the
nervous system concerned with the functions like circulation, breathing, and
eyes blinking. People being Vata-dominated can experience difficulty in
sleeping, dealing with unnecessary thoughts, and sometimes end up giving
stress, anxiety, and tiredness.

Fire or pitta which is hot, wet and increasing is the force that regulates
digestion, and metabolism. If talking about personality traits these people are
fiery, brimming with energy, courage, and strength. In case of left imbalance,
pitta dosha could result in inflammation across the body, psoriasis, alopecia,
heartburn, diarrhoea, and conditions that impact the functioning of gall, liver,
and bladder.

6. Kapha Dosha
Water or Kapha dosha is cold, wet, and heavy and its a shield which
administers the stability, structure, and moisture in the mind and
body. Kapha type people are known for their elegance, physical and
mental strength, patience, and compassion. When Kapha becomes
out of balance, according to the prakriti, you may need strength, and
support for executing varied body functions eventually leading to
difficulties in starting any task, pneumonia, poor appetite,
congestion, wet coughs, or foggy mind.
However, we are born with all the three doshas and hence they are
combined together in each one of us. This is a combination that is
identical in every human being. Usually, every individual has a
dominant form of dosha that produces his or her personal ayurvedic
constitution. If there is any imbalance to any of the dosha, then
he’she may likely to face physical and psychological concerns. An
Ayurveda practitioner at first determines the prakriti of an individual.
Later, the treatment starts to balance the dohas following ayurveda
treatment method.
