2. On his way to Damascus to continue his persecution, Paul –
also known as Saul – witnessed a bright light and fell to the
ground, hearing Jesus speak to him. He was then blindly
carried to Damascus by hand, where he encountered a Christian
named Ananias. Paul was healed of his blindness and was
baptized after believing in Jesus.
SAUL’S CONVERSION
3. SAUL IN DAMASCUS
He was with the disciples in Damascus for some days, and then he began
proclaiming Jesus in the synagogues, saying, "He is the Son of God." ‘Isn't
this the man who wreaked devastation in Jerusalem among those who
invoked this name?' said everyone who heard him. Isn't he coming here to
bring them chained before the senior priests?' Saul grew in power and
perplexed the Jews of Damascus by establishing that Jesus was the
Messiah. After some time had passed, the Jews plotted to assassinate him,
but Saul learned of their plan. They were watching the gates day and night
in the hopes of killing him, but his disciples kidnapped him at night and
lowered him in a basket through a gap in the wall.
4. When he arrived in Jerusalem, he attempted to join the disciples, but they were
all terrified of him because he was not a disciple. But Barnabas seized him and
brought him to the apostles, telling them how he had seen the Lord on the way,
who had spoken to him, and how he had spoken fearlessly in the name of Jesus
at Damascus. So he walked in and out among them in Jerusalem, boldly
proclaiming the Lord's name. He conversed with the Hellenists and reasoned
with them, but they were seeking to kill him. When the Christians found out,
they transported him to Caesarea and dispatched him to Tarsus. Meanwhile,
the church in Judea, Galilee, and Samaria was growing and prospering. It grew
in numbers as it lived in the fear of the Lord and the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
5. AENEAS and DORCAS
Peter went to visit the Lord's people in Lydda as he traveled around the
region. He found a paralyzed guy named Aeneas who had been bedridden for
eight years. “Jesus Christ heals you, Aeneas,” Peter told him. Get out of
your chair and roll up your mat.” Aeneas stood up right away. When the
people of Lydda and Sharon saw him, they all prayed to the Lord. Tabitha
was a follower in Joppa who was always doing good and assisting the
destitute. She fell ill and died around that time, and her body was cleansed
and placed in an upstairs chamber. When the disciples learned that Peter
was in Lydda, they dispatched two men to him and pleaded with him,
“Please come at once!” Peter followed them, and when he arrived, he has
been shown to his room upstairs.
6. All of the widows gathered around him, weeping and showing the
robes and other clothing that Dorcas had sewn while she was still
with them. Peter escorted them all out of the room before kneeling
and praying. “Tabitha, get up,” he shouted, turning to the lifeless
woman. She sat up as she opened her eyes and saw Peter. He took
her hand in his and assisted her to her feet. Then he summoned the
believers, particularly the widows, and presented her alive to them.
This spread across Joppa, and many people began to believe in the
Lord. Peter resided in Joppa with a tanner named Simon for a
while.
7. Despite his tough and risky journeys, Acts shows him as a
revered and respectful evangelist. He never forgets or ignores
the centrality of the Jerusalem church, even when preaching to
Gentiles throughout the northern Mediterranean. Despite the fact
that it was started by God through Peter in Acts 10, Paul
supports the rejection of traditional Jewish purity laws with
great success, according to Acts. Paul's vocation does not lead
him outside of Jewish life, but rather to extend the blessings of
covenant participation through Christ to all of the earth's
families, regardless of their observance of the purity standards.
